Edgetech TruTruck takes customer support on the road

TruTruck hits the road delivering expert customer support to glass unit manufacturers, fabricators and installers wherever they are.

The new specially-designed TruTruck vehicle from Edgetech UK, a Quanex company, is kitted out with everything necessary to demonstrate its product range. Customers can try out award-winning Super Spacer® warm edge technology spacer bar and TruFit® expanding foam edge tape for window and door installation.

Customers can use TruTruck at corporate events, or get hands-on training for their team in using Edgetech’s glazing and window products. Visitors can even have a go at making a glass unit with Super Spacer or experience how quick and clean it is to fit a window with TruFit.

The hi-tech on-board audio/visual suite also allows visitors to watch informational or training videos of Edgetech products in use. With its fold-out promotional sides and display boards TruTruck makes an eye-catching impact at trade shows and exhibitions and it will feature on the Edgetech stand at FIT Show 2016 in Telford next April.

Charlotte Davies, Marketing Manager of Edgetech explains: “TruTruck means we can go direct to customers’ sites and show them the opportunities available. Not only does it provide an ideal platform to demonstrate our range of products for the glazing industry, but it also represents extra support for customers because of the ways it can be used by them.”

Edgetech’s TruTruck will be out and about supporting customers across the country, to book a visit just give Charlotte a call.

Weruwise up to benefits of TruFit

Weruwise has ditched silicone for the fast fitting, clean and energy efficient TruFit®, the new expanding foam edge tape from Edgetech UK, a Quanex company. The East Sussex installation company is now using TruFit in all whole house installations.

“Customers like the neat finish they get with TruFit. There are no trims, bobbly silicone or paint lines and that’s got us a few word of mouth recommendations already,” says Steve Hugill, Partner at Weruwise.

“Our installation teams are impressed too. Because there’s no need for them to add a trim it saves them time as well as looking neater. They don’t have to use messy silicone or PU foam either.

“It’s easy to fit around the window and then it expands to fill any gaps between the frame and the surround. The fitters also like Edgetech’s specially designed belt to go round the roll of TruFit to keep it secure.”

Weruwise has used Super Spacer for 9 years, so when Edgetech brought out TruFit they were keen to try it. Steve adds: “We’re always on the lookout for ways to make us more professional. TruFit definitely fits the bill. It’s the future.”

Future Products switches to all Super Spacer manufacturing

Sales growth in new build and triple glazing has seen a rapid increase in glass unit manufacture at Future Products Ltd. To manage its expansion in IGU production, one of the Midlands’ largest fabricators turned to long standing supplier Edgetech UK, a Quanex company for support, switching to Super Spacer® warm edge spacer for all glazed units and door panels.

“We’ve worked with Edgetech for over 15 years and have always used Super Spacer in the manufacture of our door panels,” explains Dennis Thorpe, Chairman at Future Products Ltd. “As we expanded into new markets and more customers started ordering triple glazing we had to increase productivity whilst still achieving our high quality standards. Edgetech is a professional supplier to deal with and were able to advise us on the best machinery to support our plans for growth.”

Future Products installed a Forel fully automated Super Spacer IGU line optimised for triple glazing and are now manufacturing 3,500 units a week. Dennis continues, “We chose Edgetech because they lead the industry where warm edge technology is concerned and have always invested in producing top performing products.

“We’re now adding a second shift in the factory and will be launching an all new range of aluminium windows later this year featuring Super Spacer glass units.”

Listening to the Customers Voice

“Most companies who pioneered warm edge glass units alongside Edgetech are still customers today. Talking with customers and learning from their experiences was crucial as we grew this market together,” says Alan Fielder, Sales and Marketing Director at Edgetech UK, a Quanex company.

“Asking customers what they think of Edgetech as a supplier is important. We’ve always challenged what we consider to be true with forums, workshops or face-to-face meetings and two years ago we launched a quarterly Voice of the Customer survey. By listening to customers we learn most about what we can do to make improvements to products and services and stay ahead of their wants and needs.

“As usual we had an excellent response to our latest Voice of the Customer survey and the results are encouraging. All respondents were 100 percent satisfied with the value of our service and Super Spacer scored well on performance. The majority of customers rated it better or much better than competitive products for both productivity and ease of use.

“100 percent of responses stated that our team were knowledgeable and able to answer their questions. It’s an important score. Edgetech’s growing range of insulated glass unit components means we must be able to give customers the information they need, when they need it.

“We don’t ask leading questions. There is no point asking questions we already have the answers to. In fact we learn more from asking customers about the things that matter to their business, warts and all. So when results are good it means even more to us, but we know there is always more to be done.

“We’re launching exciting new initiatives and products to support customers over the coming months so we’ll have even more to ask about in our next the Voice of the Customer survey.”

1,000,000 Super Spacer units milestone for Padiham Glass

The automated Edgetech Super Spacer line has gone through the milestone of 1,000,000 units at Lancashire based Padiham Glass, manufacturers of high performance insulating glass units. Starting with a manual Super Spacer line, the fully automated Forel line was installed as part of the £2million expansion in 2007.

Managing Director for Edgetech UK, a Quanex Company, Andy Jones congratulated the team at Padiham Glass: “As one of the first companies to offer Super Spacer, this is a great achievement.”

The significant occasion may have been missed if it wasn’t for an eagle-eyed analyst. During an audit he told Wes Clarkson, Padiham Glass’ Sales Director, the million was close. Wes said: “We were on the lookout to see what customer order would be on the Super Spacer line as we went through the one million mark. It’s really appropriate that it was one of our longest-standing customers Darwen Windows.”

To mark this special occasion, a magnum of Champagne was presented to Bill Ainsworth, Managing Director of Darwen Windows. Bill said: “We’ve always had a very good relationship with the team at Padiham Glass. We get high-quality products with competitive pricing and we have always found the service to be excellent. I’m sure the relationship between our businesses will continue well into the next million.”

“Reaching this milestone in our 35th anniversary year is great for Padiham,” adds Wes. “We manufacture to very high standards and hitting the million mark in warm edge glass units shows we can depend on Edgetech Super Spacer to perform consistently.”

Synseal selects TruPlas for Global Glass Wigan

Following Synseal’s acquisition of the business and assets of Prospect Inc. Ltd trading as Systems Glass to create Global Glass Wigan, it has become the latest company to switch to TruPlas rigid spacer bar manufactured by Edgetech, a Quanex company.

Synseal started Global Glass operations in November 2011 and began to use volume quantities of TruPlas rigid spacer bar last year. So when it acquired Systems Glass earlier this year it immediately made additional investment plans to increase the existing capacity from 9,000 IGUs per week and turned to Edgetech once again to support them in switching to the superior performance of TruPlas.

“Having an additional well-placed IGU manufacturing facility at Wigan will assist us in offering the full range of Synseal products to our customer base in the north. IGUs are an important part of our product mix and are helping to drive significant sales growth,” says Steve Musgrave, Synseal’s Manufacturing Director. “Synseal has been making sealed units with TruPlas rigid spacer bar for a fair while now, so gearing up our new Global Glass Wigan operation to start using TruPlas was an easy decision for us.

“We have a strong working relationship with Edgetech and TruPlas rigid spacer bar has proven to be a high performing warm edge spacer bar, so we were confident when committing the necessary investments to provide new production machinery for Global Glass Wigan.”

JWC Windows becomes approved Super Spacer Dealership

“We’re really pleased to have been made an approved Edgetech Super Spacer Dealership Fabricator,” says Jim Churchill MD of JWC Windows Ltd. “The Dealership is a strong package and forms part of plans to develop the trade business with an extended guarantee, free marketing support and sales leads from Edgetech.”

With more than 25 years’ experience fabricating windows, doors and conservatories for trade in Rotherham, JWC Windows made a significant investment into manufacturing its own sealed units with Edgetech Super Spacer last year.

Jim adds: “After a hugely successful first year for the new glass unit shop, we have far exceeded the initial budget forecasts. We use Saint Gobain glass and Edgetech Super Spacer in our units. We knew about Super Spacer’s reputation for giving the best energy performance so when we started manufacturing units we talked to Edgetech. We were impressed with the speed of application and the savings it has made to labour costs and productivity.”

Alan Fielder, Director of Sales and Marketing at Edgetech adds: “The Dealership has been an integral part of the marketing support we offer to customers for 6 years. Speaking to customers, the market is experiencing a promising upturn so we’re working with customers to develop the Super Spacer Dealership package to make the most of it. It’s great to hear that customers like JWC Windows are already seeing the advantages of this and we’ll be announcing new member benefits later this year.”

Camden Boxframe gains Grade 2 approval from Camden Council, with a little help from Edgetech

When joinery specialist Camden Boxframe was awarded the task by Camden Council via an architect of fitting new double glazed sashes and frames into a Grade 2 listed property they were only too aware of the pitfalls that such a project can involve, having built strong relationships with Camden Council directly, as well as building contractors, housing associations and private customers over their 17 years of trading.
The company’s challenge was to ensure the installation of new double glazed, energy efficient windows, which are in keeping with the rest of the building & the surrounding area and so the sashes and frames had to perfectly match the original windows. They achieved this with the aid of Super Spacer in white from Edgetech, a Quanex company, and the installation has become the first of its kind to gain approval from Camden Council.
Calvin Stroud, Managing Director of Camden Boxframe and Calvin’s Mill Ltd explains: “Grade 2 listed properties are notorious for their strict requirements in terms of keeping with the original feel of the building, so it is great that there is such an effective warm edge spacer option which can be used for projects of this nature. We are pleased to announce that this was the first double glazed installation into a Grade 2 listed building to be approved by Camden Council.”
Alan Fielder, Director of Sales and Marketing at Edgetech adds: “We are delighted that Super Spacer has helped Camden Boxframe achieve the first approval from Camden Council for a Grade 2 listed building. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Camden and firmly believe that this approval will be the first of many.”

FrameXpress offers A Rating as standard with Edgetech

Successfully operating from a 25,000 sq ft factory in Telford, the FrameXpress team has no small amount of technical knowledge when it comes to windows. Directors Mark Westbrook and Stuart Green have accumulated a combined 50 years of experience in both sales and technical roles, gained initially at Profile 22 – the system manufacturer that would become FrameXpress’ profile supplier. The team has also built up close relationships with a multitude of window companies across the UK, enabling them to boast not only an expert knowledge of their profile, but a strong understanding of the ever changing needs of the industry. It comes as little surprise then that they took the decision to move from their standard C Rated offering to provide A rated windows as standard, which they did with the help of a switch in warm edge suppliers to Edgetech.

Managing Director Mark explains: “We had previously been providing up to 2000 units per week when we decided that we needed to offer A rated windows as standard. This came at a time when our glazing supplier, Glass Systems was reviewing its chosen warm edge partner, and so we were very pleased when they decided to make the switch to Edgetech.

“Super Spacer is an outstanding product, and much more effective than our previous warm edge supplier. We have been working with Edgetech since the start of the year, and have been more than happy with the results. With more than 90% of our entire production featuring Super Spacer it has been a good move for us. Our customers really like it too.”

Alan Fielder, Director of Sales and Marketing at Edgetech comments: “It’s always good to see a company so committed to offering their customers and the market the best possible solution, so we were pleased to be able to help FrameXpress achieve A Rated windows as standard. We pride ourselves on being much more than a component supplier, and so we are always happy to partner with a business to help them achieve their goals in line with their values and to assist them in any way we can.”

The UK forecast is more and more WET

Edgetech, a Quanex company, continues to report an increasing number of sealed unit manufacturers switching to its Super Spacer Warm Edge spacer technology from other Warm Edge suppliers. It’s a sign of how far the market has moved, says Edgetech’s European Managing Director, Andy Jones. As one of the first proponents of WET in the UK, traditionally most of our new business came from companies who weren’t getting the energy performance they needed from their aluminium spacer bars. But times have changed fast. Increasingly, manufacturers are switching to Super Spacer having tried other Warm Edge Technologies for two reasons – further improvements to the energy performance of their units, and perhaps more importantly, the need to manufacture high-performance units cost effectively. When you are only making a small number of WET units as a proportion of your overall volume, other Warm Edge Technologies can serve a purpose. But when the proportion of Warm Edge Technology units increases – as it is, driven by legislation and consumer demand – suddenly the numbers no longer stack up.

Edgetech’s customers can benefit from having the right product and the right machinery working together, thus eliminating certain manufacturing processes. Process elimination and automation is the only way to remove cost without compromising on quality. Some alternative Warm Edge products – interestingly the same ones that claim investing isn’t the best way forward – do completely the opposite and force sealed unit manufacturers to go back to the cut and key process, a general manufacturing practice in the 1980’s before the advent of bar benders and now the next step in the evolution of spacer being a continuous, thermally efficient flexible spacer. Generally adding process creates a factory bottle neck by slowing down the whole process not to mention creating four potential weak spots at the corner of the unit and increasing labour costs. Hourglass, The Smashing Glass Company, Quickslide and Doncaster Glass and Glazing are just some of the companies that have recently switched from a rigid Warm Edge Technology to Super Spacer for exactly these reasons. Edgetech is well placed to cater for this increase in demand because not only are we a UK based manufacturer serving the UK market, we also have a policy of never allowing our facilities to reach 100% capacity. As soon as we reach 80% capacity, we add another production line to stay ahead of future growth. We can support our customers to future proof their businesses with a stable supply of the very best products that meet market demands now and for the forseeable future in the most cost-effective way.
