Edgetech gives a taste of Super Spacer at the FIT Show 2017

Industry-leading spacer bar manufacturer Edgetech, a Quanex company, took visitors back to the classroom as they showcased the ‘science of warm edge’ at the FIT Show 2017.

Offering one of the most interactive stands at the FIT Show, Edgetech shared just a taste of the thirty years of fastidious research, constant development and thorough scientific testing used to create the ground-breaking Super Spacer flexible foam spacer bar.

The stand also featured live demonstrations of Super Spacer application, showing how glazed units can be manufactured efficiently and cost-effectively using Super Spacer. To complete the science theme, visitors were also able to pick up a test tube of Super Spacer branded M&Ms.

TruFit like a Master Fitter thanks to GQA CPD programme

GQA Assessors are invited to learn about the benefits of TruFit®, expanding foam edge tape from Edgetech UK, at a special GQA CPD event on 19 April 2017.

Window installation tapes like TruFit are being used more and more for window and door installations and this year it will feature in the finals of the Master Fitter Challenge at FIT Show 2017.

“TruFit is leading the professionalisation of the industry by helping installers to maintain the Window Energy Ratings (WERs) of the windows they are fitting,” explains Charlotte Davies, Head of Marketing at Edgetech UK.

“Our CPD session for GQA assessors will give them a thorough understanding of TruFit and how it can be used to achieve a more modern finish with a consistent perimeter seal. This will give them the knowledge to ask the right questions of candidates using window fitting tapes.”

A highlight of The FIT Show calendar, The Master Fitter Challenge is well known for incorporating the latest market trends, helping to raise installation standards across the board. As such, the inclusion of TruFit®, expanding foam edge installation tape from Edgetech UK is a perfect fit.

Edgetech Promotes Two Key Members of Staff

Promotions for two key people have further strengthened the management team at Edgetech UK, the leading voice for energy efficient glazing. Edgetech’s Managing Director Chris Alderson identified the abilities of Charlotte Davies and Karl Jones and gave them the good news of their new positions at FIT Show.

Charlotte and Karl have 19 years of service between them. Karl becomes Technical Services Manager. “This is an important role within Edgetech,” says Chris. “Our technical team has a high level of glass unit manufacturing know-how which is well appreciated by customers. Technical Services Manager is a newly created role, and Karl’s knowledge of our products and manufacturing makes him the ideal person to head up the team to give practical production support to customers.”

Charlotte becomes Head of Marketing. A well-known marketer in the industry, she has been at Edgetech since she was 18. Chris continues: “Charlotte has been the driving force behind many of our recent campaigns to make Edgetech the leading voice for energy efficient glazing. The latest demonstration of her ability was Edgetech’s success at the FIT Show. I am looking forward to seeing her build on and strengthen the Edgetech brand values in her new position. Charlotte will continue to grow the marketing support on offer to customers through our award winning scheme Dealership Plus.”

Charlotte adds: “It was a great moment when Chris announced that Karl Jones and I were being promoted and I’m very excited about my new role as Head of Marketing.”

Edgetech says FIT is the best show in years

“The best show in years.” That was the verdict on FIT Show 2016 by Edgetech UK and visitors alike.
“It was the first time at an exhibition that Edgetech had products and services for all visitors, from IGU manufacturers, to fabricators and installers,” says Chris Alderson, Managing Director of Edgetech UK. “We had a lot of very good quality discussions about our core products. Driving many of the conversations was a desire to increase production numbers and Super Spacer® is the first choice.”
The leading voice for energy efficient glazing was well placed to meet the needs of customers looking to increase production output, quality and efficiency:
“Edgetech has always led the market for production efficiencies and automation alongside better energy efficient glazing. I spoke to several machinery manufacturers at the show and there’s a real appetite for growth,” Chris adds.
Edgetech’s stand saw a record number of people ask for information about the entire product range. As well as warm edge spacer technology, the expanding foam installation tape TruFit® was a big winner. The tongue-in-cheek silicone gun amnesty went down really well with installation companies visiting the show to swap old silicone guns for a reel of TruFit. Alistair Inglis from manufacturing partner Tremco Illbruck was on the Edgetech stand to offer expert advice on the quick, clean and easy fitting method. Changes to BS8213-4:2016 installation standards have come just in time as there’s a big movement of companies looking to switch to TruFit.
Experts for the award-winning Dealership Plus business support scheme were also in high demand on the stand. Again it was a good opportunity for the whole supply chain to access information about the comprehensive package which covers crucial services for businesses. Members have access to simplified WER creation, easier CE marking, a competent person scheme and insurance backed guarantees. It offers some big cost-savings for business, as well as lead generation and full marketing support packages.
Chris concludes: “Companies in the glazing industry created the biggest and best UK trade show for many years and for Edgetech, FIT Show outperformed our expectations.”

Fitters & Installers Exchange Silicone Guns for TruFit at This Year’s FIT Show

The TruFit® tongue-in-cheek gun amnesty was a huge hit at the FIT Show. The amnesty saw window fitters and installers hand over silicone guns in exchange for a reel of TruFit. Visitors were even asking for TruFit, the expanding foam edge tape from Edgetech UK, by name.

“Installation companies were interested in the cost-savings and the time-saving opportunities for their fitting teams. They could also see the selling advantages of installing windows in a way which maintains Window Energy Ratings and TruFit is proven to have up to 23% less heat loss on average than traditional fitting methods,” explains Mel Jones, Territory Sales Manager – Window Products at Edgetech UK.

The recent revision of the BS8213-4:2016 standards see foam fitting tapes added to the code of practice for the survey and installation of windows and doors and has come at a time when interest in the alternative method is high.

“The changes to the code of practice which came into place at the end of 2015 have given window installation companies the confidence to fully embrace the opportunity to modernise and systemise their window fitting methods by using installation tape,” continues Mel.

Expanding foam edge tape like TruFit has a proven track record of performance in the commercial glazing sector, where it has been used for some time and this change in the domestic market offers extra opportunities for distributors and installers.

“There was a real buzz about TruFit at the FIT Show and it was featured on four customer stands, as well as Edgetech’s own stand in Hall 3. We had visitors joining us on the stand just to talk about TruFit and how it can add value for their businesses.

“The three day amnesty and TruFit demonstrations at the show offered us a brilliant opportunity to show visitors how one day, all windows will be fitted this way.”
