TruPlas Goes Global

Brian McDonald, Commercial Manager at Global Glass explains: “we’ve been manufacturing units incorporating Super Spacer for almost 2 years now and have seen dramatic growth in both customer demand and sales of warm edge IGUs. As a result, we forecast the trend continuing and 100% of our IGU production to incorporate WET within 5 years. Synseal and Edgetech

Since we began to manufacture sealed units at Synseal we have developed a solid relationship with Edgetech so we are pleased to support the latest technology and continue our investment on behalf of our customers using the TruPlas product from our trusted business partner. The manufacturing principles at Global Glass are to build-in quality at every stage and continually improve quality standards. Edgetech has proven that they share these brand values and so are ideally placed as the WET supplier who will help take our IGU business to the next level.”

As a result, the tubular spacer has been structurally designed for increased stability and strength, which makes cutting and assembly easier and features our tried and tested true vapour barrier and advanced acrylic adhesive which strengthens under heat, so customers don’t need to be concerned about de-lamination. The product has passed EN1279 Parts 2, 3 and 6 and can be processed with standard equipment.

Quanex Rings the NYSE Closing Bell

To celebrate five years of trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Quanex Building Products, the parent company of warm edge specialist Edgetech, rang the Closing Bell on April 22, 2013. President and CEO David Petratis did the honours on behalf of the company.

Andy Jones, Managing Director of Edgetech comments: “While this PR event in New York may seem remote to many of us in the UK glazing industry, it does serve to underline the wealth of resources that Edgetech gained following our acquisition by Quanex last year. Although we were already ahead of the rest of the market in terms of WET with products tried and tested successfully across the globe for 25 years, the acquisition by the building materials giant means we can now also tap into a R+D budget in excess of $1million with a chemistry lab that most Universities would be proud of!

“The sharing of innovation and investment has also allowed us to bring to market new products and alliances quicker than most, something we showcased at the FIT show with our new Bostik offering and TruPlas rigid spacer. This support and the financial strength it provides is particularly important at the moment as more new entrants come into the WET sector with superficially similar products. As a Quanex company, Edgetech not only has the resource to ensure our customers stay ahead of their competition, but also that we can continue to invest in the overall future of the industry.”

Edgetech Official Manufacturing Facility Launch A Resounding Success

The official opening of warm edge technology specialist Edgetech’s Heinsberg manufacturing facility was a celebration enjoyed by over 150 industry representatives from across the globe. Local dignatories, the media, IGU manufacturer customers and suppliers came together for the event which also hosted specialist presentations from NRW-Cluster Energiewirtschaft and the IFT Rosenheim. In keeping with the company’s energy efficient Super Spacer(R) products, the theme of the day was environmental developments in building design, and especially in next generation glazing.

Andy Jones, Edgetech’s European Managing Director comments: “It was wonderful to see so many people gathered together to help us celebrate the official inauguration of our 5 million Euro investment. As well as seeing production in action during guided tours of the facility, we were also able to show guests our planned further expansion including two more extrusion lines by early 2012, culminating in a total of 6 to support our 80% growth this year. Continental Europe is a strategically important market for Edgetech, and investing in Heinsberg, our third manufacturing facility sets out our commitment to achieve market leadership.”

Super Spacer goes to Latvia

Windows with Edgetech’s Super Spacer Warm Edge Technology inside have made the trip to Latvia where residents are enjoying its energy efficiency benefits. Walsh Windows Limerick recently shipped the first major export order for it’s ‘A’ rated windows to the country as a result of an enquiry made by a Limerick local with Latvian ties. John Walsh, Director of Walsh Windows Limerick explains: “We manufactured 98 windows and 21 doors in total for some bungalows in Latvia’s second biggest city, Daugavpils and the project was completed ahead of schedule. We celebrated 40 years in business last year so are thrilled that this unusual request came to us. All products were shipped using our own transport and drivers. They had to do a 4,000 mile round trip to deliver the windows but now that we have demonstrated that logistics aren’t an issue for us the trip has already opened up some new opportunities for us.”

Limerick based Walsh Windows has three factories totalling 40,000 square feet and manufactures PVC-U, timber and aluminium windows. The company is looking forward to expanding its export offering as well as continuing to offer energy efficient products to its domestic markets.

Edgetech uses Glasstec to announce new Super Spacer manufacturing facility in Germany

Glasstec 2010 was the platform for leading warm edge technology supplier Edgetech’s announcement that it is to open a new manufacturing facility in Heinsberg, Germany. The first wave of this multi-million Euro investment into the 12,000m2 site looks set to create 100 new jobs and is a further demonstration of the company’s commitment to WET market leadership in continental Europe.

Andy Jones, Edgetech’s European Managing Director comments: “Edgetech IG Inc. currently has two manufacturing locations in Cambridge, Ohio and of course the only dedicated WET manufacturing facility in the UK, in Coventry. Due to unprecedented sales demand in Continental Europe – up 85% so far in 2010, with a forecast for an additional 50% growth in 2011 – we made the decision to expand our operations in Europe to include manufacturing. This move reflects the strategic importance of these markets to Edgetech as more and more IGU manufacturers come to us for the most cost effective and superior thermal performance WET products.

“Glasstec presented the ideal platform for launching our expansion plans, and the press conference on our stand themed ‘Putting You In Pole Position’, attended by all the major European media and the Mayor of Heinsberg with other local North Rhine-Westphalia dignitaries added an extra buzz to a week of high points. Our sales and technical teams from the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe welcomed 100s of visitors to our stand during the week, and signed new deals with many of the industries major players.”
