Edgetech heads to Dusseldorf for 25th annual Glasstec expo

Warm-edge experts Edgetech have returned from a highly successful appearance at Glasstec 2018.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Glasstec is one of the world’s biggest and most respected glass industry trade expos, and this year drew more than 42,000 visitors from over 120 countries to Dusseldorf between the 23rd and 26th of October.

Edgetech was one of 1,280 exhibitors from fifty countries, and demonstrated the array of hugely impressive projects its products have featured in at a stand bearing the motto ‘Always Present in Prestigious Buildings.’

The mood of the exhibition was extremely positive, as Edgetech Head of Marketing Charlotte Mercer recalls.

“Construction continues to boom in China, the Middle East and Asia more generally, and we saw extensive interest from visitors from these parts of the world across the four days.

“It’s clear that, for Edgetech and other businesses like ours, there’s still huge growth potential in the East – not just because of the rising number of prestige buildings being built across the continent, but also because of the specific challenges that Asian construction presents.”

In hot regions like the Middle East, windows and glass facades are subject to much higher stress, because of large differentials between inside and outside temperatures. Super Spacer’s 100% memory makes it invaluable in these circumstances – no matter how much a unit might expand in hot weather, it will always return to its original position.

Tall, tower block-style buildings are also very popular in the area, which also presents challenges. Again, Super Spacer’s flexibility is extremely useful here, significantly reducing the mechanical load.

“As ever, Glasstec was an extremely valuable experience for us – it’s no surprise it’s lasted 25 years”, Charlotte concludes.

Edgetech’s Super Spacer is the leading foam warm edge spacer product on the market, offering easy application, 100% memory and exceptional thermal efficiency and condensation resistance. The firm also manufactures an extensive range of other flexible components, including its commercial-focused TriSeal and T-Spacer, as well as a number of rigid products.

Edgetech takes its place among G18 finalists after year of looking forward

An action-packed period for warm-edge pioneers Edgetech has now been topped off with a prestigious award nomination.

The Coventry business has been announced as a G Award finalist in the best component supplier category.

Leading warm-edge experts for over three decades, Edgetech have followed up a momentous 2017 – which saw them celebrate a decade of manufacturing in the UK and open a new facility at their Coventry HQ – with extensive investments in R and D, the establishment of a new product testing lab, and a wide-ranging research project.

The lab will enable Edgetech to develop new products, assist customers to meet accreditation and compliance requirements, and generally distribute technical expertise more widely throughout the company.

Edgetech also enlisted branding specialists Orb to conduct a thorough analysis of its relationship with its customers, and perceptions of the company in the market more generally.

Over dozens of interviews with Edgetech customers and staff, Orb sought to build up a picture of what stands the firm out from the crowd – and the results have informed Edgetech’s strategy for the years ahead.

“I think we’ll come to look back on 2018 as a pivotal year for Edgetech,” comments Managing Director Chris Alderson.

“2017 was the year we marked our ten-year milestone and celebrated everything we’ve achieved in Coventry since 2007.

“But this year, we’ve focused on the future. We’ve asked ourselves who we are, what our values are, and where we want to be as a business in decades to come. We’ve rebranded to mirror that – and, with the lab, we’ve put resources in place to help us continue driving innovation forward.

“We’re delighted that all this has been recognised by the G Award judges this year – and we look forward to finding out the final results!”

Super Spacer’s versatility to take centre-stage at glasstec 2018

Warm-edge experts Edgetech will be showcasing Super Spacer’s market-leading versatility at glasstec, the world’s biggest glass industry trade show.

Drawing over a thousand exhibitors and 40,000 show-goers from 100 countries, glasstec is an emphatically global event, seeking to tackle the biggest issues facing world glass and glazing.

In 2018, visitors to Dusseldorf will be discussing Industry 4.0, the rise of thin glass, facades and smart glass, and new trends in interior design among other hot topics.

At Edgetech’s stand, the respected firm will be celebrating the hundreds of bold and ambitious building projects that Super Spacer has helped bring to life from Scandinavia to the Middle East, including Zaha Hadid’s the Opus in Dubai, and the stunning Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Germany.

It will showcase the state-of-the-art glass architecture featured in these and a whole host of other Super Spacer-enabled developments all over the world.

“Our aim at glasstec is to show the industry just what Super Spacer can do,” comments Edgetech Managing Director Chris Alderson. “From minus-degree temperatures to the deserts of the Gulf, time and time again Super Spacer has offered outstanding performance as part of some of the most striking and ambitious buildings on the planet.

“Its structural foam absorbs the pumping motion caused by rapid increases and drops in temperature, preventing wear on the primary seal and ensuring longevity in any climate zone. And its flexibility means it can be incorporated into units in whatever weird and wonderful shape an architect can dream up.

“We can’t wait to demonstrate all this and more at glasstec. Come and see us at Stand C61 in Hall 17 from the 23rd to the 26th of October!”

Edgetech MD talks tech, innovation and the future of fenestration at landmark Glazing Summit

imgonline-com-ua-resize-tvmiVwJU22UEdgetech Managing Director Chris Alderson took to the stage to debate the future of fenestration at May’s Glazing Summit.

Well-respected Chris, who worked as European Sales Director for one of the world’s biggest adhesive and sealant companies before joining Edgetech in 2016, discussed how innovation and technology is reshaping the sector as part of a panel of industry experts.

“At Edgetech, we’ve always prided ourselves on focusing on more than just our own day-to-day objectives as a business,” Chris comments. “We’ve got a long track record of helping drive the industry forward, including with our Energy Efficiency in Focus and Triple Glazing Question events, and the Glazing Summit has given us a chance to do so again.

“On stage, while acknowledging that innovation has and is continuing to transform the way we work, I also stressed that fenestration is lagging behind other industries in many ways. Other sectors invest a significant proportion of their annual sales revenue in research and development – in the pharmaceuticals industry, the figure is in double digits. In glass and glazing, by contrast, it’s estimated to be less than 1% – and that’s undoubtedly held us back.

“I also suggested a number of ways fenestration businesses can accelerate and incentivise innovation. At my previous employer, a percentage of our sales targets had to be fulfilled by selling new products, for example.

“At Edgetech, we’re focused on new product development, and we’re also championing modern automated insulated glass manufacturing techniques. We’re seeing other countries already investing significantly in manufacturing automation and the UK needs to embrace these efficient manufacturing methods and technologies to be able to compete in the global marketplace and offset the widespread labour shortages.

“Fenestration faces challenges in the years ahead, there’s no doubt – but seeing the industry come together to intelligently discuss them at events like this makes me optimistic about the future.”

Held at the St John’s Exhibition Centre in Solihull on May 22nd, the Glazing Summit brought together 400 senior figures from across fenestration to discuss new product developments, emerging opportunities, and the future of the sector in the wake of Brexit.

Edgetech helps manufacturers adapt to changing industry at China Glass

PR223 - Edgetech Team China Glass 2018Globe-trotting Edgetech has returned from a highly successful showcase at the 2018 China Glass exhibition, one of the biggest events in the glazing industry calendar.

Visiting Shanghai from the 19th to the 22nd of April, China Glass draws glazing professionals from across Asia and the wider world to see the latest cutting-edge products, and discuss the key trends and developments reshaping the industry.

This year, the show captured a snapshot of an industry in transition, as Daniel Zhang from Edgetech’s dedicated agent in China explains:

“The glazing market is changing rapidly – particularly here in China. We’re seeing rising demand for energy-efficient products, and for higher-end, better-performing products in general. What’s more, like their European counterparts, Chinese manufacturers are showing more and more interest in automation.

“This year’s China Glass reflected that – and at Edgetech’s, our market-leading spacer products received a huge amount of attention. We showcased the flagship Super Spacer, the TruPlas rigid bar, and a large curved IGU made with our premium commercial-grade product TriSeal, which seemed to particularly impress visitors.

“Beyond the products themselves, there was also a great deal of interest in the broader manufacturing solution that Edgetech can offer – fully-automated lines, world-class technical assistance, finance packages for key customers and more.

“It’s clear that modern IGU manufacturers are looking for both outstanding products and extensive value-added services – and we’re confident that our ability to offer both will ensure we thrive in the years ahead.”

Chris Alderson, Edgetech UK & Asia Pacific Managing Director commented: “As more and more glass manufacturers move towards automation, it’s clear that not just in China but all over the world, there’s huge demand for the sort of speed, efficiency, and excellent all-around performance than Super Spacer and other Edgetech products can provide.”

Edgetech champions efficiency and innovation at Fensterbau Frontale

World-leading warm-edge experts Edgetech have returned from a highly successful Fensterbau Frontale.

PR201 - Edgetech Team - Fensterbau 2018Widely acknowledged as the world’s biggest and best fenestration expo, Fensterbau routinely attracts hundreds of thousands of glazing experts from all around the world.

Regular exhibitors at the Nuremberg event, Edgetech have been a pioneering force in the field of high-performance glazing for more than thirty years, and its stand showcased the excellence and innovation that have made it a respected name throughout global construction.

With Super Spacer, thousands of IGU manufacturers have been able to substantially increase energy efficiency and overall unit performance – and with the advent of automation, and ever tighter environmental regulations, outstanding spacer technology is more vital than ever, as Edgetech UK Managing Director Chris Alderson explains:

“Last year we showcased at major glazing events all over the world, and this year we’re doing the same – visiting Germany, India and China among other destinations. And wherever we go, we find more interest in warm-edge products than ever.

“In large part, I think that’s down to the growing appeal of automation for IGU manufacturers. Exceptional thermal performance is now the norm – between 70 and 80% of sealed units now incorporate warm edge technology, compared to just 5% in 2007.

“That’s led to rapidly rising demand for products capable of delivering the very best thermal efficiency – and, in turn, to many firms embracing automation as a way of keeping pace. With companies like Edgetech able to offer automated lines that can produce an IGU every twenty seconds, the efficiency gains are obvious.

“At Fensterbau, it was great to be able to discuss issues like these with IGU manufacturers from all over the world, and we look forward to developing the new contacts we made into lasting, mutually profitable relationships.”

Edgetech’s Super Spacer is the leading foam warm edge spacer product on the market, offering easy application, 100% memory and exceptional thermal efficiency and condensation resistance.

The firm also manufactures an extensive range of other flexible components, including its commercial-focused TriSeal and T-Spacer and conservation-friendly Heritage product, as well as a number of rigid products.

Edgetech to ‘Visit Glass’ at FIT Show 2019

PR031 - Visit Glass - Super SpacerEdgetech has become one of the first big-name brands to sign up to VISIT Glass, the exciting new show-within-a-show set to take place as part of FIT Show 2019.

The first time in over a decade that glass manufacturing, processing and installation will be given a national platform, VISIT Glass was launched after 40% of FIT Show attendees expressed interest in seeing more focus on glass and glass technology at future events.

The show will combine key exhibitors representing leading brands with thought-provoking seminars on the hottest topics in glass and glazing.

Edgetech Head of Marketing Charlotte Davies commented:

“We’ve always hugely valued the FIT Show, and have exhibited every year since it first launched. It gives us a fantastic opportunity to make new contacts, connect with potential customers and collaborators, and spread awareness of the many benefits of Super Spacer while building the Edgetech brand.

“That’s why when we were approached about the new area, we were keen to be involved once more. The new area will offer a focal point for visitors interested in our segment of the market and we hope will draw a more targeted audience for us. We’re looking forward to attending what we hope will become a regular fixture in the glazing calendar.”

Edgetech’s Super Spacer is the leading foam warm edge spacer on the market, offering easy application, 100% memory and exceptional thermal efficiency and condensation resistance

2017 saw Edgetech celebrate ten years of manufacturing the ground-breaking product in the UK. It was back in 2007 that the firm’s Coventry manufacturing facility first opened its doors – and a decade on, 40 companies marked their own ten-year anniversaries with Super Spacer.

Zak Doors and Windows Expo finds huge opportunities for warm edge experts Edgetech

PR017 - Edgetech - Zak Doors and Windows ExpoWarm edge pioneers Edgetech capped off a momentous year of milestones and international exhibition appearances by showcasing at India’s biggest fenestration event, Zak Doors and Windows Expo.

The fifteenth Zak Doors and Windows Expo came to Mumbai’s MMRDA Exhibition Centre in December, bringing together glazing experts from all around the world to discuss the future of fenestration, and see the latest products taking the sector by storm.

The gathering took place as India’s construction industry gears up for what looks set to be a historic boom, fuelled by extensive state investment.

Hundreds of thousands of homes are scheduled to be built in the next few years as part of the government’s Housing for All by 2022 initiative, with the Indian economy set to almost double in size in that time.

What’s more, ongoing trends away from traditional wooden windows and towards more modern uPVC and aluminium alternatives present huge opportunities for component suppliers, as Edgetech MD Chris Alderson explains.

“It was fantastic to take part in Zak Doors and Windows. There’s a real sense that Indian fenestration is on the cusp of something huge, and as both government and consumers increasingly turn towards high-performance IGUs, we saw enormous interest in the benefits that Super Spacer can provide.

“It’s often suggested that in developing economies like India and China, companies could skip a whole step in the traditional evolution of manufacturing and jump straight from making window units by hand to full automation. Given the unparalleled efficiency of our Super Spacer automated lines, that’s another factor generating interest in Edgetech and our product range.

“It was great to meet manufacturers and others from all around the world, and we’re confident we were able to lay the foundations of what will become close, long-lasting partnerships in years to come.”

“It’s clear that not just in China but all over the world, there’s huge demand for the sort of speed, efficiency, and outstanding all-around performance than Super Spacer can provide – particularly as more and more glass manufacturers move towards automation.”

In 2011, Edgetech was acquired by billion-dollar building products giant Quanex. Soon after, Edgetech was merged with Truseal to create the world’s largest warm edge manufacturing site.
