Edgetech takes its place among G18 finalists after year of looking forward

G18 Awards Finalist

An action-packed period for warm-edge pioneers Edgetech has now been topped off with a prestigious award nomination.

The Coventry business has been announced as a G Award finalist in the best component supplier category.

Leading warm-edge experts for over three decades, Edgetech have followed up a momentous 2017 – which saw them celebrate a decade of manufacturing in the UK and open a new facility at their Coventry HQ – with extensive investments in R and D, the establishment of a new product testing lab, and a wide-ranging research project.

The lab will enable Edgetech to develop new products, assist customers to meet accreditation and compliance requirements, and generally distribute technical expertise more widely throughout the company.

Edgetech also enlisted branding specialists Orb to conduct a thorough analysis of its relationship with its customers, and perceptions of the company in the market more generally.

Over dozens of interviews with Edgetech customers and staff, Orb sought to build up a picture of what stands the firm out from the crowd – and the results have informed Edgetech’s strategy for the years ahead.

“I think we’ll come to look back on 2018 as a pivotal year for Edgetech,” comments Managing Director Chris Alderson.

“2017 was the year we marked our ten-year milestone and celebrated everything we’ve achieved in Coventry since 2007.

“But this year, we’ve focused on the future. We’ve asked ourselves who we are, what our values are, and where we want to be as a business in decades to come. We’ve rebranded to mirror that – and, with the lab, we’ve put resources in place to help us continue driving innovation forward.

“We’re delighted that all this has been recognised by the G Award judges this year – and we look forward to finding out the final results!”

Edgetech scores a hat-trick with trio of prestigious award nominations

Head of Marketing at Edgetech UK Charlotte DaviesWarm edge pioneers Edgetech have been shortlisted for Company of the Year award at the Coventry Telegraph Business Awards.

The annual event, started by the long-running Coventry Telegraph newspaper, exists to celebrate success, recognise achievement and showcase Warwickshire’s most outstanding and innovative businesses.

They culminate in a glamorous presentation evening held at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena, routinely attended by hundreds of members of the area’s business community.

When choosing finalists for the Company of the Year category, judges looked for businesses “universally acclaimed for their commercial practice and dedication”, who could demonstrate “strong market share, economic turnaround and innovative approach”.

The good news came just after Edgetech was nominated as G17 Component Supplier of the Year, and Spacer Bar Manufacturer 2017 in the National Fenestration Awards.

Head of Marketing, Charlotte Davies commented: “At Edgetech, we’re incredibly proud to be a thriving Midlands business, training and employing hundreds of local people over our decade of manufacturing in the area.

“Recently investing over a million pounds in expanding our headquarters, we’re demonstrating our continuing commitment to the people of Coventry and Warwickshire more broadly.

“We’re really looking forward to the awards night itself, and meeting other exceptional businesses from around the region. Good luck to all our fellow nominees.”

Edgetech’s Super Spacer is the leading foam warm edge spacer product on the market, offering easy application, 100% memory and exceptional thermal efficiency and condensation resistance. The firm also manufactures an extensive range of other flexible components, including its commercial-focused TriSeal and T-Spacer and a number of rigid products.

In 2011, Edgetech was acquired by billion-dollar building products giant Quanex. Soon after, Edgetech was merged with Truseal to create the world’s largest warm edge manufacturing site. Edgetech now has three spacer manufacturing facilities located in the USA, UK and Germany and between the sites in excess of 300 million metres of spacer is produced every year.

Edgetech’s excellence acknowledged with G17 nomination

Chris Alderson, Edgetech UK Managing DirectorThe news tops off a momentous year for the Coventry company, that’s seen it not only celebrate a decade of manufacturing in the UK, but invest extensively in facilities and staff.

Back in July, Edgetech gathered local dignitaries, members of the trade press, executives from parent company Quanex, and long-standing customers and suppliers, to open a £1m extension to their HQ.

“Everyone at Edgetech is delighted that we’ve been recognised in this way,” commented Managing Director Chris Alderson. “The G Awards are the biggest and most competitive awards scheme in the industry, and even being finalists is a huge achievement.

“Coming towards the end of a year of celebration for Edgetech, it’s provided us with a valuable opportunity to look back, and see just how far both we as a company and the industry as a whole has come in a relatively short amount of time.

thumbnail_g17_FINALIST“Back in 2007, warm edge technology was still niche – used in as little as 5% of sealed units in the UK. Today, the market has been completely transformed. Between 70 and 80% of sealed units now incorporate a warm edge spacer – and Edgetech can take a lot of the credit for that.

“But we’re never complacent. We’re planning to ramp up UK investment even further in the months and years ahead, strengthening our position as market leaders, and are set to benefit greatly from Quanex’s new centralised R and D facility in Akron, Ohio, located ideally within close proximity to the polymer experts at the University of Akron.

“Our company is built on innovation, and we have some very exciting product developments in the pipeline. All in all, it’s an extremely exciting time for Edgetech, and our customers throughout the country.

“Good luck to all the other nominees – and we look forward to the awards night itself in November!”

ISO 9001:2015 in the Bag for Edgetech UK

ISO 9001:2015 in the bag for Egdtech UK manufcaturers of warm edge spacer bar Super SpacerEdgetech UK, the voice for energy efficient glazing, is one of the first companies in the industry to be accredited with the updated quality standard ISO 9001:2015, proving the company’s dedication to offering the best products and service for customers.

The quality review came out in August and the ISO 9001 standard was changed this year to meet the increasingly complex way that businesses work. “The updated standard ISO 9001:2015 much more closely reflects the way Edgetech already manages its quality service systems,” says John Stark, Works Manager at Edgetech UK. “Our quick response to achieve the new standard has put Edgetech ahead of the game.”

The criteria for ISO 9001 is to make sure that businesses are consistently offering good products and services to their customers. The standards are regularly updated to reflect improving business practices. The newly revised standards have a big focus on risk and risk assessment.

Edgetech already has an extensive risk assessment strategy in place and ensures security of supply for customers by manufacturing and storing products locally with the added back-up of manufacturing facilities in Europe and the US. Feedback from customers has been positive. They consistently receive a quality product with a quality service.

“When a new revision comes in, we compare the new guidelines with our existing systems to check there are no gaps and develop plans to implement new requirements.”

As well as maintaining product quality, the new ISO 9001 requires that all in-house processes undergo rigorous checks during audits, including environment, logistics, training and health & safety. Every process involved to get an order dispatched to customers is assessed to ensure companies offer consistently a top-quality service for customers.

“The new ISO standard looks at quality management across the entire business and is encouraging more leadership engagement and supply chain management too,” adds John. “These are both things that Edgetech already does well, with annual audits with suppliers and active involvement from the whole Edgetech team.”

This early ISO 9001:2015 standard for Edgetech proves its commitment to a complete and quality service for customers.

Edgetech is a Construction Marketing Award Finalist with TruFit

Construction Marketing Awards Finalists EgdetechEdgetech UK, the driving force of energy efficient glazing, has been named a finalist in the Construction Marketing Awards 2016 for Best Branding and Positioning for TruFit®, the expanding foam edge tape used to install windows.

The ‘Don’t just fit it, TruFit it’ campaign has brought foam window installation tape to the top of the agenda in the glazing industry with fantastic results.

More window installation companies have turned to TruFit to systemise their window fitting with the quicker, cleaner and more cost-effective installation method and BS8213-4:2016 best practice for window installation now includes impregnated foam tapes.

Head of Marketing at Edgetech UK, Charlotte Davies said: “At Edgetech we identified a literal gap in window efficiency and brought TruFit to market to help window fitters maximise the performance of the products they are fitting.

“I’m really pleased to be a finalist for this great industry award. We worked hard to bring TruFit to window installation companies across the country. TruFit featured on five stands at FIT Show 2016 along with a tongue-in-cheek gun amnesty where fitters swapped their silicone guns for rolls of TruFit.

“We’ve also taken it a step further and are supporting TruFitters with a complete marketing support package to help them sell the benefits of using our installation tape to homeowners too.

“Sales of TruFit are growing exponentially and we’ve got exciting plans for next year.

“We have impressive competition in our category. As a new brand in the industry we’re honoured to have been named finalists and we’re really looking forward to the ceremony.”

Edgetech is up against four other finalists for Best Branding and Positioning. The winner will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel in London on 1 December.

Triple Passive House Certification for Edgetech UK

Edgetech UK, the leading voice for energy efficient windows, has been accredited with Passive House certification for three of its Super Spacer® products, reflecting its total commitment to energy performance in buildings.

Super Spacer Premium has been certified with the Passive House Institute’s best available energy efficiency class stamp of phA+ whilst Super Spacer TriSeal/T-Spacer Premium and Super Spacer TriSeal/T-Spacer Premium Plus have both been accredited with phA standard.

All three of Edgetech’s spacer bars significantly exceeded the required minimum specific edge resistance and were certified for the Arctic climate component efficiency class stamp, as well as for all climate zones with lower demands.

Alan Fielder, Sales & Marketing Director at Edgetech UK said: “I’m delighted to hear that the Passive House Institute has recognised that these spacer bars are eligible for use under the Passive House standard – a simple approach to building super energy efficient homes.”

While Passive House only accounts for a small percentage of buildings in the UK, many more developers and specifiers look for products that offer top thermal efficiency.

The Passive House Institute also considers hygiene when certifying spacer bar components.
By reducing condensation and maintaining comfortable humidity levels, Super Spacer can
virtually eliminate the potential breeding ground for mould growth and associated health
problems. Super Spacer’s qualities have made it popular for hospitals and medical facilities
all over the world.

Alan continues: “This acknowledgement from the Passive House Institute further secures
Edgetech’s place as the leading voice for energy efficient windows.”
