Edgetech Urges Industry to Support GGF Campaign

Edgetech, the only dedicated manufacturer of Warm Edge Technology in the UK, is urging the industry to get behind the GGF’s campaign to get a window scrappage system introduced by government. The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) has petitioned the government to introduce a scheme whereby householders are encouraged to scrap their old poorly insulated windows in return for a &pound1000 grant towards the installation of more energy efficient products. The petition is now online at http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/windowscrappage

“Edgetech is backing this important petition because we can see the potential the system would offer our industry,” says Andy Jones, Edgetech Managing Director. “If such a scheme was introduced, window manufacturers, suppliers and installers would all benefit from increased sales; consumers would obviously benefit by saving &pound1000, but they would also be able to enjoy the long term benefits of reduced fuel bills. The government also has something to gain from the scheme because it will help reduce emissions from existing housing stock. So it’s a win-win initiative that as an industry we should do everything in our power to back. Edgetech has e-mailed a link to its 7500+ database to make it even easier for people to put their name to this important petition. We hope other manufacturers will do the same to ensure the GGF gets all the backing it needs to get this petition the official consideration it deserves.”

Edgetech Supports ESG in WER Seminar

Edgetech, the only dedicated manufacturer of Warm Edge Technology in the UK, is supporting customer Energy Saving Glass (ESG) in a Window Energy Ratings seminar it is hosting at its new factory in the West Midlands on Friday 9th October. Alex Walker of ESG explains: “Some fabricators and installers are still daunted by the prospect of achieving Window Energy Ratings (WERs) and are struggling to get to grips with the existing and pending legislation that is driving the need for WERs forward. We want to give our customers and potential customers a helping hand by inviting them to an informative open day at our new factory in the West Midlands. We’ll be looking at the need to supply more energy efficient and cost effective windows and the best way to achieve that. Edgetech will be on hand to talk about Super Spacer Warm Edge Technology; visitors will be able to get more information about glass from Pilkington; and Promac will be attending to take any questions on machinery. Representatives from ESG will of course also be available throughout the day to talk price and service with those interested in taking their offering to the next level.

“ESG has recently invested in a For.El fully automated machine and the very best products to ensure we help our customers stay ahead of demand, as well as changing legislation, to grow sales and maintain profit. Fabricators or installers that would like to attend the seminar can call us on 01384 297666.”

Ravensby Joins Super Spacer Dealership Following 63% Increase in Super Spacer Sales

Edgetech, the only dedicated manufacturer of Warm Edge Technology in the UK, is pleased to welcome Ravensby Glass to its Super Spacer Dealership Network. Gordon Dickson, Managing Director, of Ravensby explains: “We’ve been working with Edgetech for several years and having seen sales of our Super Spacer double glazed units increase by 63% year on year, and seeing the additional sales potential we could gain from the Dealership, we decided to take the extra step and join the initiative. Having just passed the rigorous EN1279 Part 3 test, Ravensby is well positioned to exceed its customers’ demands with a quality product, as well as show compliance with the strictest industry standards – standards that could become even more important with the pending revisions to Scottish and English Building Regulations.

“The Super Spacer Dealership is a great way for us to generate even more sales because we can offer a 20-year guarantee to existing and potential customers. The marketing support and literature is also a huge incentive to join the Network along with the help and guidance we receive in every area from Alan Fielder and his team. Edgetech’s technical team in the UK and Europe has also supported us through the entire Part 3 process, which was a great help. The market is still tough so having strong relationships with the right partners is a great asset. With Ravensby’s outstanding personal service and roots in the Malcolm, Ogilvie & Co Ltd group of companies with its 160 year proven track record, combined with Edgetech’s considerable resource for business support in every area, our customers can trust us to give them the best performing products with the best service. This is particularly important to fabricators in today’s market.”

Edgetech Launches WER:DIY 3 – The Guide to Your WERs

Edgetech, the only dedicated manufacturer of Warm Edge Technology in the UK, has launched a brand new version of its WER:DIY programme – the Window Energy Rating (WER) assessment calculator for fabricators. “We launched WER:DIY as a joint initiative with Pilkington back in 2007 to help fabricators understand what they would need to do to achieve A, B or C energy rated windows,” explains Edgetech Managing Director, Andy Jones. “WERs have really gathered pace since then but there are still plenty of companies that are looking for advice on the energy rating they could achieve with their existing profile. The new version of WER:DIY includes 3 Warm Edge Technology products from Edgetech; Pilkington K Optiwhite; an aluminium system from Sapa; more PVC systems than ever before, including products that include thermal inserts. With these new additions the calculator now contains 12,870 combinations of materials and technologies across 16 different window systems and has 99 IG specifications per frame type. This is almost double the amount of combinations we had in WER:DIY Version 1. This wide range of options allows fabricators of all systems to see how their individual windows perform against the BFRC ratings and how they could perform by changing individual components of their window. WER:DIY is a free and easy service that gives users access to all of this information in just a minute.”

E.A.S Joins Super Spacer Dealership for Energy Efficient Windows

Edgetech customer, E.A.S Windows in Oadby, has joined Edgetech’s Super Spacer Dealership to show its commitment to offering high standard energy efficient windows. “We’ve been offering B and C energy rated windows with Cleartherm sealed units with Super Spacer inside since 2008,” explains Adam Spradbury, Managing Director of E.A.S Windows. “Energy efficiency has always been a selling point for PVC-U double glazed windows, but the latest technology and energy rated windows have added further credence to this selling proposition. Consumers can now compare one window’s energy performance with another on a like for like basis, as they do with their white goods such as fridges, freezers and dishwashers. With fuel bills looking set to increase again this winter, there has never been a better time to be selling energy efficient products into the home. Being part of Edgetech’s Super Spacer Dealership helps us to do this effectively with the business and marketing support it offers.

“It’s not just domestic customers that are looking for green alternatives either – we’ve seen great interest from the commercial sector too. We’ve recently completed the installations of five circular windows at the newly refurbished and extended Foundry Campus at Leicester College. We were also awarded a contract for 250 windows in two 1930’s mansion blocks within one of Leicester’s conservation areas. Energy efficiency is a requirement for all our customers and we’re pleased to be able to offer them the best possible solution for all their needs.”

E.A.S is a family run company that will be celebrating 30 years in business next year. It manufactures and installs windows in the commercial, trade and retail sectors.

Building Regs force WERs to Next Level

Dear Editor,
Consumers were disgruntled to say the least last winter when their fuel bills rose to unmanageable levels. Gas customers were faced with a 35% increase on their annual energy bills and electricity customers a 9% increase. The bad news is recent news reports suggest we might be facing further increases this winter.

According to Greenpeace, which has seen a draft of the Government’s plans which are about to be set out in detail, the estimated cost of meeting the renewable energy target will be 7pound100bn. This is the amount of funding needed for a new energy infrastructure, including 7,000 more wind turbines. This translates to an additional cost to the consumer of 25 per cent on gas bills and 17 per cent on electricity bills.

This level of increase in the cost of fuel is bound to give consumers a further push to take steps to improve the energy efficiency of their home. While worrying news for all of us as homeowners, it does give consumers looking to buy new windows an even bigger incentive to opt for the energy rated option. Installers with windows rated C and above are therefore in an even better position to take advantage of this development.

The latest suggested revisions to Part L of the Building Regulations will force all installers to sell C or higher rated windows anyway, so surely it’s better to get the attacker’s advantage now. For those not yet selling energy rated windows, it’s a great time to start. And for those that are selling energy rated windows, what better angle for your winter marketing campaign – to install C (or above) rated windows now?

Yours sincerely

Andy Jones
Edgetech Managing Director

Zenith Staybrite Ltd Chooses Super Spacer

Zenith Staybrite Ltd, one of the best known names in home improvements with a turnover in excess of £40 million, has named Super Spacer as its Warm Edge Technology of choice. Andrew Stone, Technical Services Manager of Zenith Staybrite Ltd explains why: “Zenith Staybrite Ltd has invested a lot of time, money and effort into creating a comprehensive range of green products, including energy efficient windows. We wanted to push the boundaries of our products’ performance and create a high specification window to meet our customer’s stringent security and energy saving expectations. The criteria we used to choose the right spacer for the job included performance, availability, price and practicality. Super Spacer allowed us to embrace the leading edge high performance technology we wanted without increasing the cost to the end user.

The double glazing industry has always offered a more energy efficient option, but now we need to fine tune our products’ performance to meet future legislation and end user demand for greener goods.”

The Super Spacer Dealership typifies quality, high standards and all round support. It is the ‘perfect fit’ for our approach to business and enables us to tap into Edgetech’s considerable training and marketing resources to ensure that we remain at the forefront of the domestic window sector.”
