TruFit

"TruFit makes a real difference" says West Country Windows

Window InstallationWhen it comes to fitting coloured windows into stone or brick walls, TruFit® expanding foam edge tape from Edgetech UK beats other methods, according to West Country Windows.

The traditional housing stock in Somerset has a variety of stone and brickwork which can mean uneven apertures with jagged edges. TruFit provides an effective thermal barrier for window and door installations; as it expands, the tape seals any spaces between the wall and the window frame. This minimises cold spots and offers an average of 23 percent less heat loss than traditional installation methods.

Managing Director Ken Ashplant at the Yeovil-based fabricator & installer has seen even more reasons to switch to TruFit: “There’s no need to scribe trim around windows and doors with TruFit.”

“Because stone and brick apertures have so many indentations, our installation teams would have to scribe a bead section to go with a particular contour if they were using silicone. But with TruFit, it’s just fit and forget. You get a perfect, straight line that’s really pleasing to the eye – it’s a real time saver.”

West Country Windows has also found that TruFit is the best installation method for coloured sashes.

“Trying to colour match silicone with coloured frames can be a bit hit and miss,” continues Ken. “And overspill from the silicone onto the frames can make a mess.”

West Country Windows has been manufacturing IGUs using Super Spacer® for twenty years, so were keen to try the Edgetech UK fitting method for its installation teams.

“I have a great interest in products that come to the marketplace that give added value to the installation with great benefits to our customers and at the same time can save on labour costs.

“TruFit makes a real difference – it’s a winner.”

What TruFrame says about TruFit

TruFit® expanding foam window installation tape is taking the industry by storm. The take up of the product launched by Edgetech UK, the leading voice for energy efficient glazing, has exceeded all expectations. It’s easy to see why, with professional businesses like TruFrame switching to TruFit.

Here’s what Patrick Firmager, Marketing Director at TruFrame says: “Using TruFit expanding foam edge tape for installations by our retail company, Crown Windows, was an easy decision. We pride ourselves on the energy efficiency of our products and are always keen to implement new techniques and advanced technologies to stay ahead of the game.

“As one of the first companies to offer A++ rated windows, we want to ensure that homeowners receive the greatest possible energy saving benefit from their investment. Using TruFit during the installation guarantees a durable and consistent level of thermal insulation.

“Also, the clean and defined ‘shadow groove’ created by using TruFit adds the perfect finish to any installation, all whilst offering a huge time-saving over traditional trimming methods.” Alan Fielder, Director of Sales and Marketing at Edgetech agrees: “Patrick’s comments hit the nail on the head. If homeowners are choosing the highest energy rated windows, they want to know that they are being fitted to get the best long-term performance. TruFit offers all this and more. TruFit is quicker, cleaner and easier to install, and it looks much neater.”

Drop your guns! FIT Show amnesty will clean up window fitting

‘Mama put my guns in the ground; I can’t shoot them any more…’

It’s not known whether Bob Dylan had window fitters in mind when he penned those seminal lyrics. But they’re certainly relevant now because when it comes to the best way of sealing windows and doors, the times they are a-changin’.

That’s why a light-hearted ‘Gun Amnesty’ at FIT Show 2016 will urge visitors to lay down
their silicone guns and walk away… with a roll of clean, efficient TruFit® sealing tape in
exchange from Edgetech, a Quanex company.

Tests show that using sealing tape cuts heat loss by almost a quarter, against windows sealed using a silicone gun. It’s also proven to be up to 20 percent faster to use – making window fitting quicker, cleaner and neater, as well as saving money. Live demonstrations at the show will allow installers to experience the benefits of working with TruFit.

Pre-compressed expanding foam edge tape provides an effective thermal barrier for window and door installation. This ensures true energy rating performance and a long-life weather seal.

Thermal imaging analysis has shown how much heat can be lost at the edge of windows installed using traditional methods. When the same windows were fitted using TruFit sealing tape, an average of 23 percent less heat was lost.

Because it works by expanding to seal all spaces between the frame and wall effectively, the risk of gaps due to poor application is eliminated. Draughts caused by cold spots are minimised, one of the best ways of creating a feeling of comfort in the home.

Edgetech’s Director of Sales and Marketing Alan Fielder says: “Our tongue-in-cheek ‘Gun Amnesty’ allows installers to replace their messy, inefficient silicone gun with a clean, effective alternative, a roll of TruFit … no questions asked!”

Installers can drop their silicone guns in the ‘Gun Amnesty’ bin on Edgetech’s stand number 336 in Hall 3 at the FIT Show 2016, which takes place at the International Centre, Telford, from 12-14 April.

Weruwise up to benefits of TruFit

Weruwise has ditched silicone for the fast fitting, clean and energy efficient TruFit®, the new expanding foam edge tape from Edgetech UK, a Quanex company. The East Sussex installation company is now using TruFit in all whole house installations.

“Customers like the neat finish they get with TruFit. There are no trims, bobbly silicone or paint lines and that’s got us a few word of mouth recommendations already,” says Steve Hugill, Partner at Weruwise.

“Our installation teams are impressed too. Because there’s no need for them to add a trim it saves them time as well as looking neater. They don’t have to use messy silicone or PU foam either.

“It’s easy to fit around the window and then it expands to fill any gaps between the frame and the surround. The fitters also like Edgetech’s specially designed belt to go round the roll of TruFit to keep it secure.”

Weruwise has used Super Spacer for 9 years, so when Edgetech brought out TruFit they were keen to try it. Steve adds: “We’re always on the lookout for ways to make us more professional. TruFit definitely fits the bill. It’s the future.”

There will be mud

There will be mud at FIT Show 2016. “The best way to demonstrate the exceptional performance of TruShield® easy-clean treatment for glazing is to throw muddy water at it,” says Charlotte Davies, Marketing Manager at Edgetech UK, a Quanex company. “It really brings home how brilliantly TruShield, Edgetech’s next generation glass protection system, works.”

Visitors to FIT Show 2016 will find TruShield right by the entrance of Hall 3. Edgetech chose stand AT10 for new product TruShield when show organisers added premium space in the atrium between the newly located Master Fitter Challenge and the exhibition entrance.

Charlotte wants the latest products in Edgetech’s range to have the attention they deserve: “TruShield is a fantastic opportunity for the window industry. It protects glass to maintain its original performance and saves time, effort and money for end users by creating easy-clean glass. It adds value to windows or glazing for IGU manufacturers, fabricators and installers.”

Throwing muddy water at both treated and untreated glass allows visitors to see just how TruShield works. The chemically bonded layer maintains the clarity of the glass without affecting the light transmission and this maintains the energy efficiency of units. TruShield is exceptionally resistant to wear, chemical erosion, heat and UV radiation.

“Visitors to FIT Show 2016 will see the process for coating glass is simple,” adds Charlotte. “Edgetech has three options for companies looking at this profitable new opportunity. We will be demonstrating how the hand, semi and fully automated systems make TruShield available to any business.”

Edgetech has three stands at FIT Show 2016. In addition to showing TruShield, Edgetech also has the stand next to the highly popular Master Fitter Challenge. This is dedicated to TruFit® expanding foam edge tape for thermally efficient window and door installations. It will show why one day all windows will be fitted this way. And in Hall 3 there’s the rapidly growing ‘just add glass’ product range for IGU manufacturers on the Edgetech stand.

One day all windows will be installed this way

“One day all windows will be installed this way,” predicts Alan Fielder, Director of Sales and Marketing at the recent launch of TruFit by Edgetech UK, a Quanex company.
“We’ve shown that TruFit is the best way to install windows for energy efficiency. And it has the added benefit of being quick – up to 20 percent faster – simple and very clean to fit.”

TruFit is a pre-compressed foam sealing tape for window and door installation. It provides an effective thermal barrier at the edge gap between the window or door frame and the reveal. This ensures true energy rating performance and a long-life weather seal. The results in thermal imaging are impressive. Tests of installations with traditional sealant showed how much heat is lost at the edge of the windows. When the same window was fitted using TruFit there was on average 23 percent less heat lost around the window fitted.

“It’s not a question of good or bad installation techniques,” adds Alan. “TruFit works by expanding to effectively seal all gaps and spaces between the frame and wall.” TruFit also improves comfort levels because it reduces draughts caused by cold spots. This is recognised as one of the best ways to reduce heating bills. Even the slightest draft can make us ‘feel cold’ and we often turn up the thermostat to compensate. Take away the draughts and the ambient temperature maintains at a more even level giving us the highest level of comfort.

“TruFit not only saves money for installers and property owners it’s also a great sales opportunity. With so many benefits we believe that all windows in the future will be installed this way. Don’t just fit it, TruFit it!”

New Supply Chain Expertise for Edgetech

As Edgetech UK, a Quanex Company, adds four new products for IGU manufacturers, window fabricators and installers, a new role is created to support customers. The position of Commercial Supply Chain Manager has been filled by David Relph who comes with over 10 years of experience in operations and logistics.

David will use his previous experience in warehouse and project management to develop and implement strategies that continue to improve processes in Edgetech’s Coventry-based manufacturing and distribution centre.

“I’ve joined Edgetech at an exciting time for the business as it launches Super Spacer Alpha, TruFit, TruShield and TruSieve,” comments David. “The success of TruPlas rigid warm edge spacer bar has already grown our customer base significantly and the recent launch of TruPlas SDL has seen us handling more complex orders.

“I’m looking forward to liaising with customers to ensure we keep exceeding their expectations on service as we continue to grow the product range.”

Edgetech celebrates its 25 anniversary with four new products

Edgetech celebrates 25 year anniversary

Building on its reputation for adding value to glazing Edgetech UK, a Quanex company, launched an exciting range of products for the manufacture and installation of value added windows at its 25th anniversary celebrations at Great John Street Hotel in Manchester.

Edgetech has been at the forefront of top energy efficient windows for 25 years, and this year it’s expanded its product range for companies looking for ways to enhance their glazing or installation offering. Already this year, Edgetech has added TruPlas and TruPlas SDL to its ever expanding product portfolio, and now there are four more products creating new opportunities for IGU manufacturers, fabricators and installers.

High performance warm edge spacer bars

At its product launch in Manchester on 8 October, Edgetech showed guests the new additions Super Spacer Alpha, TruFit, TruSieve and TruShield.

“These new products are designed to support customers and dealers, enabling them to differentiate themselves with next generation, high performance products,” said Andy Jones, Managing Director of Edgetech UK.

At the launch official thermal test results for its new foam spacer were revealed as 0.13W/m2K, making the Edgetech Super Spacer Alpha the best performing warm edge spacer bar in the world.

Edgetech also launched TruFit, warm edge for windows. It’s an expanding tape that perfectly seals around the frame to the brickwork making the complete installation energy efficient and weathertight. So much of the UK’s housing stock is older and it’s difficult to get a good fit all round. TruFit reduces heat loss by up to 23 percent at the edge of the frame and saves up to 20 percent fitting time making it cost effective for both homeowner and installer.

During the presentation there was a live demonstration to show how fast, easy and clean TruFit is to install.

TruSieve desiccant was the third product addition. It gives IGU manufacturers a reliable and superior quality desiccant with high adsorption capacity keeping the unit free from moisture.

The final product was TruShield. It is a high quality coating that bonds to glass and makes it easy to clean. Unlike many other products, TruShield doesn’t depend on specific environmental conditions. This means it will work in all locations, including north-facing windows as well as those in the sun, so the benefits will be seen even on shaded glass.

The product launch was part of the silver jubilee celebrations as Edgetech celebrates its 25th anniversary on 1 December 2014. Joined by long standing customers, suppliers and press, Edgetech’s guests enjoyed spectacular views of the Manchester skyline from the rooftop of Great John Street Hotel.

Guest and longstanding customer Adrian Barraclough, Quickslide’s CEO, added: “It’s evident that
Edgetech is in business for the long term and it’s very comforting to have a partner company who is at
the top of their game and continuously looking for ways to improve our industry efficiencies.”
